Assistant Professor, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)
The Mechanical Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has a faculty position available in Advanced Manufacturing at the assistant professor level. The research areas of interest include: additive manufacturing, digital manufacturing, and intelligent material processing. The candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical, manufacturing, and/or materials engineering. The selected candidate will join a group of faculty whose research interests are related to WPI’s Materials, Manufacturing and Mobility strategic initiative. Candidate is expected to have a PhD or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant discipline. The Mechanical Engineering Department at WPI (http://www.wpi.edu/academics/me/) has 33 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering to 950 students. The department offers graduate degrees in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science and engineering, and manufacturing engineering to 280 graduate students. The department’s externally sponsored research expenditures exceeded $12.5M last year. WPI, founded in 1865 and located one hour west of Boston, is one of the nation’s oldest and premiere technological universities. WPI is a highly selective private university with an undergraduate student body of over 4,000 and 1,900 full-time and part-time graduate students. Its innovative project-enriched, interdisciplinary curriculum engages students and faculty in real-world problem solving, often at one of WPI’s global project centers.
